Drinking outdoors
Drinking is the number one human social bonding ice breaker. It is a fundamental part of having fun, relaxing and getting rid of fears and sometimes your worries (if you don’t drink too much). However, there are designated places in which we adults are allowed to indulge in a cool beer or refreshing cocktail. These places are mostly indoors “boring”, in bars and clubs before 4am in NYC and in our homes. This is very limiting. We are confined to these quarters like a bad child on time out. And we miss out on the fresh air and breezes that our enhanced senses would be sensitive to. Not to leave out mentioning the view gets boring inside as well, which can easily dampen your mood and make those worries and stresses you are trying to sip away resurface faster.
Fortunately there are rare times and places when we can catch the full experience of drinks, socializing and the changing scenes of the great outdoors. There are actually quite a few. If you are lucky enough to have access to a balcony, a rooftop garden or side walk cafe. These locations provide great views of city life, cityscapes, montages of people, cars and traffic, rivers, the ocean and parks. These things provide a great background for occasional laughs and jokes that can be poked at passersby. There is never a dull moment outside especially in this great city.
Another great outdoor drinking experience is during large outdoor events like parades, martigras, j’ouvert, block parties and cultural street fairs. These events give you the whole nine yards, music and dancing, freash air and breeze, plenty people, and loads of things happening to stimulate all your senses. And enhanced sensory sensitivity is one of the pleasures of a light buzz. Why miss out on it?
Now I wouldn’t recommend drinking at the beach or a pool, your senses are sensitive and slowed. Response times are delayed so it’s best to play it safe. Stay on your feet or better yet in a chair. Don’t drink and drive. Drunken car experiences NEVER end well! Other than that check signs and local policies before you go outdoors to drink. Sometimes their maybe certain stipulations like no glass bottles but plastic cups are okay. Drinking on the streets when there is no event is always illegal when not in the French Quarter of New Orleans. And public Drunkenness is not sexy, please drink responsibly.
You are right on here –> “public Drunkenness is not sexy, please drink responsibly”. I’m going to share this on our Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/SafeRidesUnlimited
